Rickmansworth Council looked to replace an existing R22 refrigerant cooling coil within an existing Air Handling Unit that served a main meeting facility within the council chambers. TCS undertook the design, supply and turnkey installation of a new Ground Source heating and cooling system that was retro-fitted into the existing unit.

A ground source system comprised of a slinky base located within the gardens, which are overlooked by the main buildings. Eight trenches were dug to meet the load of the Mitsubushi DX to water heat pump.

The air-handling coil was exchanged for a new R410a unit and new connecting refrigerant pipework installed to connect the two systems together. All the controls and electrics were also upgraded to take into account the new operating system and inverter driven pumps.

The new Ground source heat pumps now offer very low operating costs with COPs of around 5 compared to the old air-cooled R22 Dx system.
